about the ranch

The Ranch is located three miles south of Douglas, WY. We have a small herd of Registered Red Polled Dexter Cattle.

Don and I started off with horned and polled cattle- black, red and dun. Although we enjoyed our first cattle, we decided to change our breeding and have changed to the Red polled Dexter.  Dexter’s come in three colors: red, black and dun. They are all great, but it was just a personal preference for us. One of the main reasons we went with Dexter’s is that they are easy calvers-very little issues. The meat is outstanding, very lean. Also, since we have a smaller acreage with some irrigated land, it has worked great for our herd.

Our herd sire, CJ’s Archie won the National ADCA Grand Champion Dexter Bull for 2018. We felt very honored to win this award. Archie was very gentle and easy to handle. Archie’s calves have all had great dispositions and are easy to handle as well. We have had great success with our breeding and all of Archie’s calves have won or placed in their classes when shown.

In 2020 the ADCA had a virtual National show and we won National Grand Champion Female with Moosters Peaches n’ Cream and Grand Champion Cow/Calf with Moosters Peaches n’ Cream and Little Hoof Phoebe. We feel very blessed. Phoebe also won Reserve Champion in the Adult Junior heifer calf class. Little Hoof Bridger purchased by CDS Minis Dave and Carl Cluff won the Grand Champion Bull.  We sure missed attending an actual show and seeing everyone.

This last year at the 2023 ADCA National Dexter Show Open class we won National Grand Champion Steer with Little Hoof Bentley, Reserve Grand Champion Bull with Little Hoof Bo, Grand Champion Junior Heifer with Little Hoof Paris, Reserve Grand Champion Cow/Calf with Little Hoof Phoebe and Little Hoof Paris and Best of Udder with Little Hoof Phoebe.

Our herd sires now are two bulls we raised Little Hoof Bo-Archie’s grandson and Little Hoof Archie’s Champ-Archie’s son. We no longer have Archie, but we do have semen collected. Both bulls  have great dispositions and are very easy to handle. We showed Bo at the Central States Fair in 2020 and he won Grand Champion bull. Our first calf crops from Bo and Champ were in 2021 and we were very happy with the 2021 calves.

Since we show, we start halter breaking the calves when they are a couple of weeks old. We really enjoy working with our cattle as well as showing.  We started showing several years ago and have enjoyed all the shows: Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri and Kansas. A lot of hard work goes into the preparations for show cattle, but the results are well worth it. We seem to learn something new at every show and meet a lot of new and old friends. It has been a lot of fun and we plan to continue to show when we can. We sure hope to see everyone in 2024.

We strive to raise the highest quality of beef we possibly can. To all of our new and returning customers who have purchased Beef “Thank You”. Everyone has been very satisfied with the marbling and taste of our Dexter meat. Our “Customers Satisfaction” is very important to us.

Whether you are just browsing our web page, looking to buy or have questions about the Dexter Breed give us a call at 307 359 0030 or email us at donbecswisher@yahoo.com and we would be glad to visit and help in any way we can. We would like to say “Thank you” to all the people who have purchased our Dexter cattle and hope you have enjoyed them as much as we do. We would like to say “Thank you” to all of the customers who have also purchased semen.
